Privacy Policy

Provenance Manawatū operates under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020. This document sets out what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with and the rights you have as a visitor to this site.
What we collect
When you visit provenancemanawatu.co.nz we collect basic technical information: IP address, user agent string, referring URL, timestamp, pages viewed, and approximate location derived from the IP address. This is standard server-log and analytics data, collected on every commercial site.
We do not ask for, nor collect, any personally identifying information unless you voluntarily send us an email. If you send us an email, we retain the message, your address, and any attachment you send for as long as the correspondence remains active.
Cookies and analytics
The site uses a cookie-free analytics provider (Cloudflare Web Analytics) that records anonymised, aggregated traffic information at the server level rather than by placing a tracking cookie in your browser. We do not embed Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel or equivalent cross-site trackers.
Affiliate click tracking is handled by third-party link-management services (principally Linkly) which set a short-lived cookie when you click an outbound casino link. That cookie records the source of the click so the destination casino can credit us for the referral. You can prevent this cookie being set by clearing your browser cookies or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser settings.
How we use the information we collect
Server logs and analytics data are used to understand which articles readers visit, which devices they visit from, and approximately where in New Zealand they read us. We use this to prioritise editorial work on pages that are being read and to identify technical problems (slow loads, broken images) that need fixing. We do not build personal profiles and we do not enrich our server logs with any external data source.
Who we share data with
We share data with two categories of third party: our hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages, which processes every request that reaches the site), and affiliate link services that carry outbound clicks to casino operators. No personal information is shared with casinos beyond the referral cookie set by the link service.
Data retention
Server-log data is retained for 90 days. Analytics aggregates are retained for 12 months. Email correspondence is retained for as long as the conversation is active and deleted on request. We do not sell, rent or monetise reader data in any form.
Your rights under the Privacy Act 2020
New Zealand residents have the right to request a copy of any personal information we hold about them, to have it corrected if inaccurate, and to request its deletion. Because we do not hold personal information on readers beyond email correspondence, in almost every case this amounts to deleting an email thread on request. To exercise this right, email [email protected].
If you believe we have mishandled your information, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Minors
Provenance Manawatū is an 18+ site. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a minor has contacted us please notify [email protected] and we will delete any correspondence on receipt.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change. The "last updated" date at the top of the policy reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be flagged on the home page for a period of no less than 30 days.
